Common Septic Questions & Answers
How often should I have my septic tank pumped?
Septic tanks should be pumped every 2 to 3 years. Of course, your septic system is rarely top of mind, so most of us need a reminder when that 2 years comes around again. If you would like, we can set you up on our automatic reminder program.
How do I know where my septic tank is?
We have equipment that can locate your septic tank and field for you.
What is the expectant life of a septic system?
Most septic systems last 25 years or less.
If my septic system is failing, do I need a new system installed?
We have a unique septic field restoration system that can add years to the life of your system. It is effective, relatively fast and won't disturb your turf. It can also save you thousands of dollars versus having a new septic system installed.
What can do to prolong the life of my septic field system?
Septic systems rely on beneficial bacteria to help "eat" or "dissolve" waste. One of the best things you can do to keep your septic field system working, is to keep the beneficial bacteria alive. To help in the growth of beneficial bacteria, we have a bacteria product that you can add to your system.
How do I know whether something is safe to flush or not?
Anything that is not biodegradeable should not be flushed into your system. Examples include: feminine hygeine products,
disposable diapers, disposable baby wipes and dissinfecting cloths. Not only will these items build up in your tank and potentially clog your system, many of them can not be pumped out easily by our pumper truck. Even if the packaging says "flushable", it is usually not septic safe. Also, antibacterial soaps or cleaners containing bleaches and harsh chemicals should be used very sparingly as they can destroy the good bacteria in your system.
